The Piano Tour at the Church of Panagia Aggeloktisti

2 Arch. Kyprianou 7550 Kiti

The church of Panagia Aggeloktisti dates to the 11th c. and was built over the ruins of a 5th c. early Christian basilica. It preserves a superb decoration including one of the most significant and elaborate wall mosaics of early Christian art (6th c). The monument demonstrates the co-existence of artistic expressions from early Christian and Medieval art as well as ecclesiastical architectural development diachronically, over a wide temporal spectrum. It represents a range of international values – historical, artistic, religious, social, educational – and is central in the bibliography of Byzantine art and research. The church of Panagia Aggeloktisti was submitted as a possible UNESCO World Heritage Site and is currently on the list of Tentative UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Piano Tour - European Archaeology Days 2024
The Piano Tour is taking concerts out of theatres and into the outdoors; taking talented local musicians and a piano to unconventional urban or natural locations to perform, while streaming it live on Facebook so even those who can’t make it can watch. The project voyages around the island bringing classical music to all corners of the country, including some of Cyprus’ most important archaeological sites. Co-organised by the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO and Avantgarde Cultural Foundation.
