The CBA Festival of Archaeology incorporates hundreds of in-person and virtual events delivered by community groups, heritage organisations, universities, commercial units, and more across the UK.

The 2024 CBA Festival of Archaeology will run from the 13-28 July and this year our theme is Archaeology and Community.

Festival of Archaelogy Launch at the Scottish Crannog Centre
Join us for a free fun-filled family day for the launch of this year's CBA Festival of Archaeology at the amazing and newly re-opened Scottish Crannog Centre!

Discover the skills and crafts used by the Iron Age community who originally settled on the shores of Loch Tay over 2,000 years ago through hands-on and creative activities for all ages.

This event will take place on Saturday 13 July from 10am to 4pm.

Archaeology and Community Theme Day
The Council for British Archaeology Festival team present a bonanza of community engagement in the Theme Day.

We will have our traditional (well it has been 3 years!) suite of skills you can master in your own home or as a group, as well as a creative event where you can get involved either in person or online.

Our amazing Youth Resources will also be launched.

The 2024 #AskAnArchaeologist Day will take place on Friday 19 July - get your questions ready!

#AskAnArchaeologist Day on X (formerly Twitter) is an official part of the CBA Festival of Archaeology and is a chance for people from all over the world to ask archaeologists questions and an opportunity for archaeologists to share their knowledge.

A Day In Archaeology
Have you ever wondered what archaeologists really do? Do they just dig or are there other aspects to their work? A Day In Archaeology, sponsored by Prospect, showcases 'a day in the life“ of archaeologists from all over the UK.

Blog posts are uploaded throughout A Day In Archaeology and stay on the Festival website site all year round to form a developing resource for anyone interested in a career in archaeology or wanting to find out more about the range of opportunities to participate.

This year's event takes place on Thursday 25 July.

Festival of Archaeology Finale at Hardwick Hall
Join the CBA for a family fun-filled finale to this year's amazing Festival of Archaeology at the National Trust's Hardwick Hall, celebrating archaeology and community through hands-on and awe-inspiring activities for all!

We'll be sharing more details of the event soon so keep checking this page for more information.

This event takes place on Sunday 28 July from 10am to 4pm.

Access to the Festival activities will be free of charge but standard National Trust fees will apply for entry to the house.
