Neolithic Settlement of Choirokoitia
32km from Larnaka / 48km south of Lefkosia on the Lefkosia (Nicosia) - Lemesos (Limassol) motorway. The archaeological site of Choirokoitia is a remarkably well-preserved settlement from the Neolithic Age that has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998.
Remains from all phases of the Neolithic Age are evident in the settlement, and provide an insight of living conditions in the region during prehistoric times, as well as how the Neolithic culture was spread throughout the region.
Five characteristic cylindrical shaped dwellings have been reconstructed near the settlement, using the same construction methods and materials used in Neolithic times. The dwellings are fitted with replicas of household objects found inside the original dwellings, thus providing a vivid representation of how they actually were in the past.

Cyprus Museum
1 Mouseiou Street NicosiaThe Cyprus Museum is the island’s main and largest archaeological museum, and charts the development of Cyprus’ civilisation from the Neolithic Age to the Early Byzantine period (7th century).
The museum’s collections are comprised of finds from extensive excavations from all over the island that have helped the development of Cyprus’ archaeology, as well as its research into the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean.
The collections consist of pottery, jewellery, sculpture, coins, copper objects, and other artefacts, all exhibited in chronological order in the various museum galleries.
Guided tour
Attalidou’s works, accompanied by her own thoughts on the places she has visited and captured with her art, unravel the natural, archaeological and historical dimensions of each place, reminding us how special and truly valuable the island’s natural elements are. The exhibition masterfully but delicately brings the landscape to the forefront, inviting us to consider how these unique natural, archaeological and historical surroundings have determined the course of the island’s history and how vital they are for studying and understanding past and present societies.
Attalidou’s watercolours, each with a unique journey behind it, invite us to appreciate the aura of place. Her works to some extent bridge the ‘gap’ formed when an archaeological object is removed from its find-spot and is displayed in a museum exhibition space. The artist’s ‘places’ generously, but discreetly, offer the possibility of a very different museum experience, at the same time inviting us to move around our landscapes and observe the places around us. Her watercolours unfold the multiple layers and dimensions of each place, and their tangible and intangible qualities. Most importantly, they remind us of our island’s wholeness and indivisibility.

Agios Ioannis Lampadistis Church
Kalopanagiotis villageOriginally a monastery, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a complex of three churches - Ioannis Lampadistis, Agios Irakleidios and a Latin chapel - all under a single, enormous timber roof.
Located in the Troodos valley of Marathasa (just off the village of Kalopanagiotis), the precise date of the monastery’s foundation is not known, and the building complex that survives today has undergone extensive reconstruction and restoration at different periods.
The church of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis was built in 1731. The saint’s tomb, which dates to the 12th century, can be found under the narrow north-eastern arch, and the saint’s skull lies in a niche. The icon of Lampadistis dates to 1543. A very interesting Byzantine museum can be found near the church.

Workshop
The programme sets contemporary reality as its starting point: participants become intrigued and investigate everyday issues pertaining to values we attach to objects and immaterial conditions, as well as to coins and money. One of the programme’s innovations is the introduction of interactive digital technologies in order to highlight (a) some social, political, religious conditions related to coins (b) their iconography and inscriptions and (c) their multiple functions. During the proposed educational program coins are studied not only under economic terms but also for their ideological significance and their potential to help us know and better understand processes of social and historical becoming.
In addition, during the program participants will have the opportunity to embed thoughts and knowledge they acquire during the program into the design of their own coin. These are subsequently made in 3D objects using laser cutting and are delivered to the school where they can be used both to extend the outcomes of the program as well as presenting the educational program to the rest of the school community.
