The Archaeological Park of Āraiši Lake Fortress in cooperation with Latvian Association of Archaeologists is organizing an event for children. European Archaeology Days at Cesis, Pils Street 1
Pils Street 1, Cesis, LV-4101, Latviahttps://www.arheologubiedriba.lv/blog/2022/6/3/eiropas-arheoloijas-dienas-css-18jnij
In order to draw attention to the conservation and management of archaeological heritage in cities, at the beginning of this year the Latvian Association of Archaeologists chose the ancient city of Cesis as the 2022 archaeological monument of Latvia. Archaeological research in populated areas is most frequently carried out in enclosed building sites, while urban residents, especially young people, often have little information on both the possibilities to participate in the archaeological heritage research process and on where and how the results of this research are available. Therefore, we are calling on the people of Casis and anyone
to get to know the archaeology of the city at the excavation site in Pils Street 1
Demonstration
- familiarise yourself with the equipment necessary for archaeological research
- find out what the archaeologists use in data collection and storage technologies
- participate in activities for children and young people
- learn from students about the opportunities to study history and archaeology at the University of Latvia
- find out what has been discovered at the 2021 archaeological excavations in Pils Street 1 and
- apply for voluntary participation in the excavations, which will resume this summer from 11 July
