Ephorate of Antiquities of Preveza is a regional service of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture & Sports, responsible for the region of Preveza in Epirus. It was founded in 2014 with the main purpose of reveailing, protecting and enhancing the area’s cultural heritage.

One of the most important archaeological sites of Preveza is the roman city of Nicopolis.

Nicopolis was founed by Gaius Julius Caesar Octavius -later Augustus- on the neck of the peninsula between the Ambracian Gulf and the Ionian Sea, as a symbol of his great victory against Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra VII of Egypt, in the naval battle of Actium (31 B.C.).

The city’s theater is located in the southern foothills of the sacred hill of Apollo.
