Pomorski i povijesni muzej Hrvatskog primorja

Trg Riccarda Zanelle 1
51000 Rijeka

www.ppmhp.hr

IGRA: PRIČE I SLIKE O DJECI U PROTOPOVIJESTI/GAME: STORIES AND PICTURES ABOUT CHILDREN IN PROTOHISTORY
WHAT WAS LIFE LIKE FOR CHILDREN BACK THEN?
We know little about the life of children in that period; the archaeological sources for their traces are graves. Archaeologists examine the objects in the graves to determine the time when a grave was made and interpret why particular objects were placed in the grave. Archaeologists tell stories about the past. Tell your own story about a child who really existed in the distant past.
Write a story or draw a scene from your character’s life. You can choose the gender and give a name to this child from the Late Bronze Age or the Late Iron Age.

Radionica halštatske hrane & kuharica / Kaptol Hallstatt food workshop and cookbook

This cookbook is one of results of project Iron Age Danube. The recipies themselves are a product of the participants’ imagination, but the groceries were selected in accordance with actual archaeobotanical and archaeo zoological finds discovered in Iron Age graves from one of the most significant Early Iron Age sites on the territory of Croatia – Kaptol near Požega.

The project Monumentalised Early Iron Age Landscapes in the Danube river basin, abbreviated as Iron-Age-Danube, is part of the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme (DTP) of the European Union. It focuses on the monumental archaeological landscapes of the Early Iron Age, characterised, for example, by fortified hilltop settlements and large tumulus cemeteries, from the era between roughly the 9th–4th centuries BC, corresponding to the Hallstatt period.

The project involves a partnership between twenty institutions from Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia, which also have the necessary expertise in archaeological heritage management and cultural tourism. It builds on a shared vision of and joint approaches to researching, managing and protecting complex (pre)historic landscapes and their integration into sustainable tourism.

As part of the project, a new communication format was introduced in the Danube region: International Archaeological Camps in eight micro-regions. These camps offered a unique mode of combining research with public interest in archaeological heritage and scientific research. During the camps organised in Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary, several educational workshops and museum programmes focusing on experimental archaeology were developed and tested, particularly with the younger generation, in museums, archaeological parks and local schools. This booklet is made for further use in schools and museums.

Aliena pecunia. Zbirka antičkog novca zaplijenjena u Ustaškom logoru Požega / Aliena pecunia. The collection of Roman coins confiscated in the Ustashe Požega Camp

The Numismatic Department of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb holds more than a quarter of a million objects. As part of its Collection of Roman Imperial bronze coins, the Department keeps a numismatic collection confiscated by the quisling regime of the Independent State of Croatia during the Word War II.
The numismatic analysis of Greek and Roman coins in the collection has shown that the eastern part of the Sava-Drava-Danube region in the territory of the modern Republic of Croatia is the most likely provenance of the collection. At the same time, archival research has resulted in the recovery of information and the formation of conclusions complementary to those obtained through the numismatic analysis.
Two possible reconstructions of the circumstances of the collection’s confiscation were established: it is likely that it was confiscated in the Slavonska Požega Concentration Emigration and Immigration Camp during the summer of 1941, but it is also possible it was confiscated in the Ustashe Požega organization, originally belonging to a local collector of Jewish (confessional or ethnic or both) ancestry.

The Vučedol Culture Museum is one of the youngest established national archaeological museums in Croatia, located in the slope of the archaeological site Vučedol. It is dedicated to the one prehistoric culture of the Eneolithic period (3,000-2,500 BC). The permanent exhibition aims to introduce the culture to diverse audiences trough authentic archaeological artefacts, reconstructions, digital media, research, educational activities and public events. It focuses on Vučedol Culture, with a real Indo-European tradition, that took shape between the rivers Danube, Drava and Sava and then spread to the area of thirteen modern European countries.

Workshop

Have you found a jar of gold?
During the workshop, the curators will introduce visitors to the types of finds they most often encounter during archaeological research at the Vučedol site and how they are processed (washing, restoration, drawing, photography, presentation, storage of findings etc.). The aim of the workshop is to inform the general public about the importance of even the smallest finding that can bring archaeologists important information which later become a part of museums permanent exhibition.
